ADMISSIONS
Two Distinct Educational Streams

The Institute's primary function is education, and it will offer two separate curricula or streams of courses:

  1. Academic stream (M.A. level): This stream will offer both a 12-month M.A. program and intensive three-week for-credit courses (typically for media professionals on leave). Note: First courses to start in September 2002.

  2. Training stream: This stream offers more practical or operations-related training within UPEACE's lifelong-learning dimension. It will welcome young journalists and technical staff from areas of conflict, as well as junior- to middle-ranking UN and regional-organization staff, NGO staff, and individuals planning a career in humanitarian or peacekeeping work. It will offer a variety of programs in professional skills directly applicable to areas of recent, current or potential conflict. Note: First courses to start in the spring of 2002.
The two streams will be of equally high quality, but qualitatively different: M.A. courses being especially strong on theory and analysis; and lifelong-learning seminars leaning to more practical or professional training.

Internships:

As an integral part of their studies or research, full-time students or researchers with MPI will be offered working internships with the UN or its specialized agencies, either at headquarters or in the field. Peacekeeping and public information will be prime structures for UN internships, as well as UNESCO. Internships may also be arranged with regional organizations such as the Organization of African Unity, NATO, the OSCE, the Organization of American States or ASEAN.

Admission procedures:

Pre-application: With no obligation of any kind, you may care to indicate your interest in later applying for either the academic or training streams by filling in the following brief pre-application form.
